HONGKONG LAST WEEK
Ouff! What a busy week last week! I've hardly had time to breathe! I've spent my time dressing in a hurry to go out, and rushing back home to undress and dreas again to go out yet again— Parties seem to be endless in Hong Kong, and have you noticed there's always something interest- ing to do or watch, though we do not have the conferences, the ... concerts, the shows and the
theatres we have at home? I've been in Hong Kong for three years now, and I don't think I've had a'single dull day!
POLO TOURNAMENT ·
I loved the polo last Friday. The Borderers played the Civilians and beat them 7-2 The spectators were very "select" the ladies looking all beautiful in their new aituma clothes. The atmosphere was dia- tinctly friendly and 'gay as it pl- ways is when the Gunners are at home. I think they are such per- fect hosts, and Col, Thom the most charming and the most per- fect of all—at the end of the game, Lady Peel, looking extremely nice; | in a lovely large hat, and pale frock, presented the "Koyll”. Cup to Captain Philip Villar, the Ber derer's skipper. I hear that Cap- tain Villar is going Home about Xmas. He'll be missed in his regiment, in polo circles, and among his numerous friends-in addition to being a very good polo player, he is a charming man, with the most delightful manners. I always abuse of his kindness at the races, and pester him asking for tips.
THE RACES
By the way, in spite of several tips, I have again lost my double! I was lucky enough to back Navy Hall in the first leg, but then backed Frost on. Adam in the second leg, and nearly fainted, with despair when he arrived. sec- ond, just behind King's Farade which paid a dividend of 8548:50. Alas! Just imagine the things I could have done with that money! Though. I don't think Adam would have paid as much;
The Naval Scurry was great tün -The officers drew for their ponies and knowing nothing about these jockeys, I backed the best ponry and the most handsome jockey-ap-. parently it was not a very brilliant Idea-I didn't win.
It was a pleasant change to have naval bands, and thrilling to watch the model of the Victory. It's because of it that I backed Navy Hall for a win and it did win..
