ENGLAND BEAT IRELAND AT BELFAST

Football enthusiasts all over the country had more than the usual fare during the week-end for in addi tion to a full programme of league matches, there was "the international game between England and Ireland at Belfast which the former won (three goals to dil), and the final of the Glasgow Cup in which the Rangers beat Clyde by two clear goals.

So far as the league games were concerned, Tot- tenham and Portsmouth provided plenty of thrills when they met in one of the finest games this season. The Spurs were just a shade the better team and "carried the game by the smallest possible margin.

Results of the matches, as cabled by Reuter, to- gether with the league tables brought up-to-date, will be found below:

SCORES 50 IN TRIAL

Fine Bowling By A. R. Minu

FAILURE OF SOME "PROBABLES"

Hitting seven boundaries and a six of "A. H. Madar, Capt. P. Wultams, the Army batsman. rattled up a hard-hit innings of 50, retired, in the first Interport trial at the HK.C.C. ground on Satur- day. Except for a hard chance to Madar-which would have been a fine catch had it come off-his Innings was without blemish and he made his runs out of 73 scored while he was in.

It was a match of low scores, F. D. Pereira's 22 not out being the next highest, and several bowlers showed to advantage.

F. Goodwin, the K.C.C. captain. had the best analysts, 5 for 20, but Judging by the actual bowling, A. R. Minu was easily the most dan- gerous.

He continually tied the batsmen up and in 12 overs, 5 of which were maidens, gave away only 12 ranis. He took 2 wickets but had a catch dropped of him, and pos- sibly if S. A. Ismail had been ba- 'hind the sticks would have got

other wicket. G.-8. Dunkley, we

Club 'keeper, is, of course, not" as... 2 used to his bowling as Ismail and missed a possible chance of stump- ing early in the game.

Third International Match

London, Oct. 14.

Teddy," Fincher only scored 10 runs but he fielded well and the catch, a left-handed one high up in the gully, with which he dis- missed F. A. Munn, was one of the finest seen on the ground. The felding on the whole was very good." Ernle" Lincher and Owen-Hughes being outstanding.

Apart from fielding A. H. Madar. the IRC. skipper, whose innings of 49 against Shanghal in the last Interport is still remembered, by

3 no means shone. His five overs· cost 23 runs and he had the mis- fortune to play on to-Burnett after scoring only 7.

Third in the International Soccer Championship last season England made suspicious debut this season when they beat Ireland by three clear goals in Belfast yesterday. Last year England won by a goal to nil at Blackpool.

Many Minor Injuries.

Beleast, Oct. 16.

"T. E. Pearce, Teddy Fincher, G. C. Burnett and Lieutenant A. H. Hamilton are other probables who failed, while Pereira, who two seasons ago was the most feared bowler here, seems to have lost some of his sting; and though he is capable of knocking up 50 in half-an-hour against good bowling.
