Year by year the "Double Tenth" in Hongkong is assuming deeper significance for the Chinese com- munity, and it has now become the biggest Chinese festival. on the Calendar with the exception of Chinese New Year. Many patrio tic speeches were made on October 10 and as I was invited to several of these ceremonies, I, was impress ed by the solemn note struck by the leading Chinese citizens in midst. One speaker said that China to-day was like France in the days following the Revolution, and, what struck me as particularly interesting, was that he emphasized the necessity for the individual to develop character.
