New York, Sept. 28. Despatches from London report that Soviet Russia had rejected the sales quote of 37,000,000 bushels set for her by the London Wheat Conference. This is viewed an A. Bavere setback to Russia's desire for American recogni- tion. It was also believed here that Russia's hopes of obtaining extensive credits for cotton purchases have de- finitely been dimmed.

Manila, Oct. 2 Gold mining shares have staged a comeback during the last two days, with prices soaring to öld levels, statistica gathered by the bureau of commerce last night indicated. Yes terday's total volume of transac tions at both the Manila Stock Ex- change and the Philippine Stock Exchange reached 403,079 shares of which 23,555 were disposed of by the former and 14,824 by the latter. Last Thursday's volume of sales was about 240,000 in round numbers.

Asta Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. There is no news yet to account for the demonstration today, although traders believe that the market had been thoroughly sold out. There were rumours of the usual kind that an important announcement was shortly forthcoming from Washington." However, the rumours were no more definite than they have been.
Wheat: Values advanced in sympathy with securities and in an- ticipation that the President's speech tonight may deal constructively on currency, also on rumours that gold was going to forty dollars per ounce.
Cotton: Sentiment was more friendly in line with the improvement in other markets. Demand was more general, which easily absorbed I' moderate hedge sales.
Silver: The market opened barely steady, but later steadied on a quiet market demand. The Shanghai holiday "tended to check foreign business to some extent.
Business Done: 2,130,000 shares.
