Sidney Franklin, as himself, is an exciting novelty to Americans who have followed his career in the Spanish arenas in which the bullfighting of the world centers. He appears at the head of the procession and gives & dernon- stration of the grace and skill that go into the sport.
And Other Stars
Jessie Matthews owes a deal of her success to her perseverance and deter mination. She was not born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth, in fact her parents were working-class folk. Her idea in things theatrical was to catch the managerial eye, and Jessie did it with a vengeance.

Hundreds of Extras
The spectacular film, necessitating the employment of hundreds of some of the most gigantic sets over built at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, was produced under the direction of Richard Boleslavsky author of "The Way of a Lancer," and an important figure in the Moscow Art Theatre in the days of the Imperial Russian regime.
The character of Rasputin has been discussed by so many fiction and non. fiction writers since the mysterious monk's death in 1915, that the chief historical facts are well known. Born in Siberia in 1970, Raspain was. introduced into society circles in St Petersburg and a result of his magnetic personality and alleged mystic powers, he became intiziste with the Emperor Nicholas and in fluenced the state decisions of the Czar and Carias Rasputin, according to all his biographers, led a life of dis- sipation and intrigue. In 1914 he was whom he had betrayed. He had the stabbed by a woman friend of a girl services of the Car's physician, and recovered, only to meet a violent death two years later.
In the film treatment of "Rasputin and the Empress," Director Boleslavsky was aided by Alexander Tolaboff, Russian architect, who has construct- ed sets for several previous motion. pictures having Russian and Contin-. ental backgrounds. The photoplay is described as an original story by Charles MacArthur, founded on his- torical incidents and personages.
