NATIONAL DAY FANCIED FOR

Warrington The Biggest Danger
CLOSE RACE BETWEEN HETMAN

What an interesting programme we have before us to start the second half of the year's racing? Of the nine events on the card there is not a single certainty, due no doubt to the fact, that the best ponies in the Australian Class and the China pony Α class are not entered.
Interest in to-day's sport lies mainly in the fact that the Subscription Griffins Challenge Cup will be decided. and, also, that for the first time in the history of local racing, the Jockey Club is conducting a "doubles." Fur. ther interest is added by the fact that there will be one big sweep drawn this afternoon, the first prize of which, I understand will be about $40,000,
National Day is fancied to win the Subscription Griffins' Challenge Cup, but it is certain Warrington will go to the post with as many supporters as the Chinese-owned can- didate. Golden Dragon and De Minimis are others with a sporting chance of winning.
In the "A" Class event, Hetman and Sadko are bound to put up a great struggle, but as Hetman enjoys an ad- vantage of eight, pounds, he should win.

Mayflower was one of the unluckiest ponies at the Annual Meeting, or he would have won more than $2,000 in stakes by now. Brechin will go to the post under "Johnny" Heard and may give Fan's mount a good race, but Brechin's bad finish is notorious. Tenorio is sure to try the runaway act here, but unless I mistake Mayflower very badly, Tenorio will not be able to establish much of a lead.
