Fire Brigade Officer's Story Of Rescue Work

| BRAVERY & PERSISTANCE

OF RESCUERS/

The big fire at Mongkok on the 9th inst, in which seven people were killed, was recalled at an enquiry held yesterday at the Kowloon Magistracy into the circumstances of the disaster.

Mr. H. R. Butters acted as Coro- ner and Messrs. H. J. D. Lowe, T. Wong and W. Saunders formed the jury.

Formal medical evidence · was given by Dr. J. B. Mackie, of the Kowloon Mortuary, who conducted a post-mortem examination on the bodies at the Mortuary. He found that one of the victims, the pastry. Book Poon Sam, who, it will be re called, fell from the drain-pipe of the second storey of one of the houses, met his death through con. enssion on falling from a height. The other six had all been killed as the result of burns and shock.

Fireman's Vivid Story.

A graphic description of the resene work was given by officer A. J. Cash of the Mongkok Fire Sta tion: He said that when he arrived nt the scene of the fire in Reclama tion Street the flames had already gained a good hold on the houses No. 33 and 305. The ground floor, first and second floors of No. 383 were well involved as was the third floor, though to a much lesser ex- tent. Flames were streaming out of the windows of the various floors. The first and second floors of 305
