MRS.

BORRETT OPENS THE BUILD.. ING AND TAKES THE KEY!

Sham Tseng Bay was en fete yesterday, and never before, in the history of the place, were there so many motor-cars and people out there at the same time.

The occasion was the official opening of the Hong Kong Brewers and Distillers, Ltd., brewery, by Mrs. O. C. Bor. rett, wife of H.E. the General Officer Commanding, and if one is to judge the Company's future by the repre sentative gathering that drank to the Brewers success, then indeed, a glorious future lies ahead for them.

A fleet of 100 It was indeed a memorable occasion. motor cars waited at the Ferry Wharf to bring the guests out to the Brewery, which is situated amidst delightful surroundings, twelve miles along Castle Peak Road, and the building itself, beflagged as it was, presented a gay spectacle.

Just in front of the Brewery, a big matshed had been put up, and here some 700 guests partook of refresh- ments, and had their first taste of H. B. Beer.

At the entrance to the Brewery, Mr. Stanley Dodwell, Chairman of the Board of Directors, assisted by Mrs. C. S. de Saille Robertson, wife of the Secretary of the Company, and Mrs. F. M. Barrett, advertising manager, received the guests.

The car arrangements were made by the Hong Kong Hotel Garage and the catering was done by Lane, Craw ford, Ltd. teas, cakes and ices, etc. being served in the matshed.

The Band of the South Wales Borderers (by kind permission of Lieut.-Col. Räikes, D.S.O. and Officers) played a delightful selection of music appropriate to the" occasion during the afternoon.

I came across the first while hunting for a really snappy slogan for our opening campaign. Those of you who are old enough may remember that little incident the life of the late Queen Victoria' when she was inspecting one of her pet regiments in Hyde Park, The regimental band had played an old song, very popular at the time, and the Queen, took such a fancy to it that she sent for the Bandmaster and asked him to play it again.
