effort would be amply compensated by the results.

With regard to the Orient, Dr. Geiger said that Public Health Service was one of the biggest pro- blems China has to face and that if he had five years of his life to spare he would rather spend it out here in China doing public health service. "This is provided I am given the money and facility and absolutely responsibility and no political interference, "he said.

The future of any province or state or of any of the outports de pends entirely on the safety of its inhabitants from the public health standpoints."

The Hon. Dr. A. R. Wellington in returning a vote of thanks said: "We have listened to your address with the greatest interest and it has not only been an intellectual

treat but it has also very greatly. With regard to Hong Kong, we have certain pro- blems here which are not quite the same as they are in other places but as I have always tried to teach, public health in the Orient, in San Francisco, and in England are all the same, as far as I know. We have here a certain amount of tuberculosis and I think perhaps my fellow Rotarians would like to bear, a little story about spitting A lady got into a francar and several other people in the tramcar started spitting. There was notice saying "No spitting allow ed" with a penalty of $5. She called the conductor to ask if that regulation was enforced and the man replied "God Bless You, no Spit where you like."

Dr. Wellington said that it was one thing to tell people what not to do and quite another to im press them with what they should do.

That's Different. Mr. Jones began the mid- looking, young man,

"er-ah-that, is, can-e--will you-”

Why, yes, my boy, you may smiled the girl's father The young man gasped.

What's that? Have whom!"

The Present Position,

The present position may be briefly summed up as follows.
