OUR CABARETS
ST. JOHN'S REVIEW OPINION
The action of the authorities in". Issuing the order that local cabarets bare to close their doors at mid- night, has no doubt satisfied the Kowloon residents who complained. that their slumbers were being dis turbed by the din and racket caused through the cabaret bands, writes a contributor to St. John's Review.
Naturally, however, this action has not satisfied the dance-hall pro prietors, who will lose money and custom, neither has it satisfied, and this is more to the point, the dozens of soldiers and sailors who regularly patronize these places and find real pleasure in so doing.
The complaints concerning cabar- ets came from Kowloon; let us therefore deal with the dance-halls on the mainland first.

Cabarets on the Island.
Although the above remarks have been made about the cabarets at Kowloon, we do not suggest that the public is not to be considered; we all have to attend our daily labours and therefore an adequate Amount of sleep is necessary. Under the circumstances there is a certain justification in the "early closing of the halls on the penin-. sule. "
But why should the same order apply to similar places on the island. In their operations these
