The Tati Orphanage. The Municipal authorities have announced a campaign, in support of the Orphanage at Fati, which is to be expanded by the addition of several wards. A drive has been started to raise 250,000, which will be required for the purpose. The Orphanage is one of the public in- Fatitutions in the city with the management of which no fault can be found, and its "present appealt for assistance. made under the auspices of the Mayor himself, will no doubt race; with good resportse. Among other things the orphans. are taught to make "rattan furni ture, and considerable quantities of this product are being sold to the public..

Women Barbeza.

Many barber establishments are spening up in different parts of the city with woman workers who are enjoying the good patronage. As a matter of fact, the demand for woman workers in this line is stat. ed to be greater than the supply, and a training centre has been. tarted in the city where girls are taught the profession. Indeed the growing popularity of woman bar mea col. bors has caused their

leagues much concern. The Bar- bers' Guild, which at present con- Siste only of men, is reported to have discussed the problem at a re- cent ineeting and is considering the despatchi of an application to the authorities for a bar. barbers.

ONLY WOMAN FREEMASON

A portrait of the Hon. Mrs." Ald- worth, the only woman freemason, and daughter of the first Viscount Doneraile, has been put up for auction at Christie's. Mrs. Ald worth, whose maiden name was St. Leger was born in 1889, and the portrait is attributed to Kneller.

How she became a freemason is a curious story,

In the year 1710 before the faun- dation of the Grand Lodge of Ire land in 1729, a lodge was being held at Doneraile. Court, County Cork. Miss St Leger was a wit-

ness of a portion of the ceremony, Feither by accident of design, fr

ar adjoining apartment. The Lod ge, presided over by her father, Lord Doneraile, and attended by her brother and Mr. Aldworth, afterwards her husband, decided that the best course to adopt was to initiate the young woman.

This was done, and Mrs." Ald- worth, who lived to be 79, atlain. ed eminence in the Craft and was well-known figure in Masonic ceremonies and processions.
