A VISITOR'S VIEWS ..... Rev. J. R. Saunders said:-1 want first to congratulate your Society on the splendid record of your short but eventful history. You can look back at your eleven years with pride and thankfulness for the girls that you have helped; but you can rejoice in the still more important work of creating public sympathy for your ideals and aims that, will mean much for your future work." The noble nims and practicable results of your Society's splendid record speaks well for this highly civilized Colony not only for the girls in your midst, but for the influence of your work upon the homeless dependent girls in China.

Kowloon residente those living in the Chathani Road area—aré up in arms and not without reason. Eor years, they have tolerated the coal and dust nuisance," but one could see that behind the apparent indifference with which they view ed the situation," a fame was smouldering and ready to flare up when the time came.

The mother if living is unable to rear the girl or girls in the home. What can she, do There is no home where she can place these girls. They are sold for slave girls in the better to-do- bomes or they may be sold into lives of shames and wickedness. Homes must be found for such girls where they may be reared under proper environment. It may be difficult to find such homes, but the problem will not be solved until hommes are found for the homeless girls.
It is good to stress the evils of such conditions as we now End in reference to mud tan girls. This is quite necessary and important, but we have not gone far enough in stressing these evils if we have
not created 'conditions that will overcome such evils or make them
impossible. Every girl is entitled to a home where love, and sym pathy shelter her and make her existence a joy to her and others. In Kwangtung Province, north of Conton, in Shiu Chow, we are now creating homes for these homeless girls where they may be reared under proper environment, given an education, taught a trade sa they can make a living for them- selves if necessary. Pu Kong Or phanage or Children's Home is somewhat like the Bernardo Homes in London or the Muller · Or phanag at Bristol. We are seek. ing to build twelve to fifteen of these cottage homes where we will be able to care for four to five bun dred boys and girls,
Po Kong is a model that may be duplicated all over China. When auch homes are found in large numbers in China and in the coast cities, then the evils of slave girls ought to, he overcome, certainly where the rarents are anxious to save their girls for the nation's welfare.
Thore is no doubt that this nuisance has assumed serious pro- portions and I for one give my hearty" support although I am in no way affected by it.

The meeting takes place this evening in the Peninsula Hotel and the report will be awaited with much interest by residents of Kow loon as well as those in the island. The Kowloon Residents' Association are giving the matter their keen attention. They will investigate the nuisance, and if they think fit after their investigations, they will take such steps as may be necessary to petition the Government on the matter,

Just because there have been no very serious complaints in the past about this nuisance, the people con- corned did not give the matter
much thought. The Government were making money out of it, as those who chose to store their cog supplies in the area in question had to pay a certain fee for such privilege, and as long as the Gov- ernment were getting revenue, things like the comfort of the pub lie did not worry any one at all.

That applies to this place too, and if people live in a com mercial port they must expect to find coal and dust.
