JACK HOBBS NEARING HIS TWO HUNDRED CENTURIES

LANCASHIRE SKIPPER'S SUCCESSFUL GAMBLE

London, July 28.

Despite the fact that several good scores were returned during the mid-week cricket season, the superiority of the ball over bat was emphasised, just by way of a change.

Lancashire were fortunate in scoring, a 7-run win over Hampshire and their victory was attributed to the good captaincy of P. T. Eckersley who took a bold step in declaring his second innings closed at 146 for 5.

Jack Hobbs figured amongst the batsmen who entered the land of the magical three figures. He now has 195 hundreds to his credit and as he is playing very well just now, it seems decidedly likely that he will complete his '200 centuries before the season is out.

There were two postponements on Saturday owing to the inclemency of the weather, the match between the Craigengower and the Kowloon Cricket Club having to be left off with the Champions leading by two points with less than half the game finished.

The Bowling Green made certain of remaining in the race for league leadership by defeating Kowloon" Dock. The Civil Service accounted for Recreio, as was anti- cipated, and the Police, playing at home, won from Tai koo. In the junior division, the results were very much as anticipated perhaps the only surprise being the" some- what heavy defeat of the Police at the Electric R.C.'s ground.
