LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE
Canton-Shum Chun To Be Linked Up
H.
Canton, July: 20. It is reported that the Canton Municipal Government is plan- ning
to connect & long distance telephone between this city and Shum Chun.
Trunk calls "from Canton will reach that town via Hong Kong, as it is learned that the Telephone Company at Hong Kong has direct line to Bhum Chan. The Canton-Shum Chua long distance telephone service will go through the same route, though the rate will be slightly lower than that of the Canton-Hong Kong line..
Mayor Liu Chi Wen of Canton is said to have made arrangements with the Hong Kong Telephone Company for the use of their ser- vice, and through calls from here to Shum Chun will start next week.
Shum Chun is becoming pros: perous as a" gay resort for the
tired business men" and others
from Hong Kong and Kowloon because of its More Carlo "at- tractions. That town is 88.73 miles from Canton and 22.24 miles from Kowloon.
