GDES CIGNES›
The programme conlisted of two acts of Delibes's Coppelia and Tchaikovsky's Le Lac des Cygnes, with Mr. "Anton Dolin's well-known "Spanish" dance as an interlude between the main balleta. The or ganizers can certainly not be accus- ed of nationalism in their choice, and one cannot help regretting that they did not take the opportunity of presenting, for the benefit of our guests, at least oue English ballet, especially as an expellent one is to hand, which would have afforded amusement to those who have been discussing tariff-barriers.
There is nothing else to complain of in last night's performance, which maintained remarkably high standard throughout. The company consisted of the Vic-Walls Ballet, with one or two additical dancers from outside, and it is matter for congratulation that Miss Baylis's theatres are able to provide productions dad performances worthy of such an occasion..

Onis squadron's scorpion perished; with no small financial lose to his backers, in mortal combat with a terrifying beast belonging to a rival unit. The squadron sergeant-major, hard hit in pocket, vowed revenge.
He secured a tarantula spider, with which he challenged the vic torious scorpion. The match was widely advertised.

THE MANCHUKUO GOVERNMENT
Promulgates New Tariffs
Changchun, July 20 The Manchukuo Government has promulgated a new tanf which was approved by the Privy: Council yesterday and confirmed to-day by Pu Tui, the Boy Em- peror and head of the Manchukuo. Government.
It is marked by a wholesale revision, mostly downward, of the old tariff, thus throwing a bomb- shell at the trade barriers which other countries are vying with each other in constructing.
"It révises downward, sixteen out of twenty-nine import items, and places on the free list three items. It revises upwards eight, while ten export items have been made duty free or revised down- ward.
The imports whose tariffs have been lowered include mining and electrical machinery building materiála and rubber goods while agricultural products have been placed on the free list.
Thus daily necessities Are lowered and luxuries, including cigars have been increased.
