London, July 18.
The Government's offer of a guaranteed preference of four pence per gallon for 10 years on petrol manufactured from coal, shale and peat will contribute greatly to placing the coal industry on its feet.
The announcement of the offer followed the discussions between the Government and the Imperial Chemical Indue- tries, which for years has been experimenting with hydro- genation, whereby a ton of coal yields half its weight in petrol.
