It's the mellowness of BOOTH'S Dry Gin that makes it so much to b desired in cocktails. Such mellowness comes only from treble distillation and maturing in sherry casks and BOOTH'S DRY is the only GIN which receives such care in its mak- ing. It is not to be wondered at that the 1st prize Cocktail in the Inter- national Cocktail Competition was made with Booth's Dry. THEY MIX REAL COCKTAILS WITH

The Scout"
The Rev. H. R. Wells.
His many friends will be glad to hear that the Rev. H. R. Wolla, who has recently been ill in hos- pital has now quite recovered. Mr. Wells is an esteemed worker of the London Mission, having spent more than forty years
in the Colony. Many of his old associates, such as Dr. Pearce, and others, have gone home on retirement. At one time Mr. Wells was a teacher of Chinese at Queen's College and he is still actively teaching and studying Chinese. His latest work is the exploration of Hades, through the spectacles of Chinese literature in the columns of a local evening paper. Mr. Wells is a great social worker, as well as a fine scholar, and in addition to serving on many Committees, he is the Chairman of the New Territories Agricultural Association.
A Political Recluse.
It may not be generally known that Mr. Hu Kan Mia, the doyen of the Kuomintang, has been lead- ing secluded life in the Colony and devotes most of his time to writing and literary pursuits. He only receives friends and visitors, in the afternoon and being ranked as ad elder statesman, his advice things political is frequently sought by friends from afar. It may be interesting to state here that his private secretary Mr. Li Hew Sang, has recently gone to Canton on a mission to the Government there. Mr. Li is also a sound scholar, having spent some years. in France. He is a very well-read man and should prove to be a valu- able asset to the South-West Poli- tical Council.
No Flowers!
I am glad to observe that the practice is growing in Hong Kong of not sending flowers to 's funeral but of making a donation in mem ory of the dead to deserving local charities. The custom of sending wreaths in Hong Kong has, to my trand, best developing into an insin- cers formality and reporters who have attended some of the bigger
