Investment securities are again attracting considerable attention, chief amongst which are Banks, H.K. Landa, H.K. Trams and Tele phones, all these having been mark

inga and constructive legislation, TO THE EDITOR OF THE “ HƠNG KONG rait stocks have participated ac tively in the recent market up- wing, and have decisively broken through the resistance levels form- ed by the 1939 tops. The major present uncertainty is the appar ent necessity for additional reor- ganizations of certain of the car riers, and conservative investment policy at this time dictates the weeding out of equity holdings in such situations. At the same time, continued retention of existing" commitments in the sounder shares is amply warranted, and graduat Accumulation, in favourable mar kets, of recommended issues is still advisable.

Dean Sin-The British Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai, notines that Article 1 of the Chinese Maried higher. Lime Customs Regulations for the marking of goods destined for China has been altered to read as

Boads holding strongest position by reason of earnings or financial condition, or both, the continued financial integrity of which in 1933 is unquestioned.

All imported goods, sa well as their containers and packing must be marked in a conspicuous place with the name of the coun- try of origin (ie., the country of production or manufacture) in Chinese characters. Such marks are to he of a durable nature. Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their Now York correspondents, E. A Pierce & Co. Instead of a sharp reaction it is quite possible that the markot may drift awhile. Reactionary advices. are quite general; at the same time there seems no general urge to sell and tradersare still talking of a technical correction. It is difficult to see what influence there is to cause the unloading of long stocks in volume. Wheat: Ranewed inflation and buying met with a 116tle resistance. Beneficial rain are reported in Canada and the Dakotas. The Govern ment report is considered as bullish. Cotton: Strong all aday. Demand has been large and offerings limited. The recent realizing strengthened the technical position. Silver: On account of the wide disparity between New York and London there has been considerable buying hero and selling abroad. Shanghai is reported to be doing this,
