The Lawn Bowls fixtures on Sun- day at the K.C.C. proved to be a good drawing card and I have never seen such a big attendance at local gines, unless during the rare casions when Shanghai visits Supporters of the eight different nations competing were there in full forec. Those who doubted the wisdom of such a competition must auw agree that it is one of the best ideas that have been brought forward for the promotion of friendliness and goodwill between the many communities in Hong Kong interested in Lawn Bowls,

POSTPONED

Owing to the slight shower that fell just when the games were about to start, only two out of the ave "B" division matches which were played for devision yesterday,

South China,

on their Ow ground, beat the University by nine sets to nil while the Civil Service, on the Varsity ground, loss to the Graduates Association by three sets, to "six.

The following matches were post poned:-

By their defeat in the league at the hantis of the K.C.C. the Club de Recreio have fallen from the position of league loaders which, they had hitherto shared with Craigengower and the Bowling Green. The Bowling Green won their fixture and now head the league because Craigen- gower did not carry out their fix- ture with the Civil Service. I thought at first that Luz and his merry men were going to win. They played very good bowls in deed over the first dozen heads and it was no surprise therefore to see them lead by 10 points ter six, half way in the match. Thereafter they struck & bad patch and allowed England to score 10 points to their On. It was during this spell that Snitt did some fine work, alsly

supported by his team, while the morals of Luz' men seemed to be shaken by this reverse. There was very little doubt as to the result ce England was in the lead, for

Those Aquatic Galas

Before saying anything about the varied and delightful entertainment provided by those aquatic galas on Saturday, I would like to make a general observation. It is not satisfactory in a small Colony lisa Hong Kong, for these, galas to be held all on one night. This is the second occasion that the YM.C.A. and Y.R.C. fixtures have over- lapped. There is absolutely no need for this to happen if a little friendly understanding, exists be tween the two clubs. After all, there are many week-enda avail- ables and it is not great difficulty For one club or the other to stand down once it becomes known that a certain date has been booked little co-operation is needed. What about it?

It was hard luck on Portugal that they should have drawn against England in their first round. Had they draw any other side, l'have no doubt, they would have gone an to the semi-finals, Better kick next

The impression one gathers from watching these various swimming sports in Hong Kong is that too much attention is being paid to the work of specialising in the "craw!" stroke. This is particularly true of the V.R.C. whence so many speed- stars have been produced. With the exception of half a dozen or so,

Of course, the V.R.C. in staging this visit the Manila is prepared to pay all expenses, and, as the experi ence will do Hong Kong swimmers a world of good, I wish them every
