SPINNING INVENTION HONG KONG STOCK

DEVICE TO INCREASE PRO

DUCTION AND REDUCE "

COSTS

Mr. T. Heywood, a Glossop mill manager, claims to have completed an invention which will help Lan- cashire cotton spinners to increase production and reduce costs,

Mr. Heywood states that by this device spindles may be driven at any speed or in any direction in dependently of the speed of the delivery rollers. He also claims that the rollers may be driven in dependently of the speed or direc. tion of the spindles.

The basis of all costing in cotton mills," atates Mr. Heywood, "has been the amount of twist re quired in all yara spun. But with this invention, the amount of twisti or turns per inch will not cost any- thing, as any amount of twist can be put in without reducing the pro- duction or speed of the delivery rollers.

.."As present, when it is necessary to insere more twist in all spinning frames, the rd of the delivery rollers has to be reduced, which results in a great loss of produc tion and increases, the cost of the yarn which is spun."

The device applies to frames with. either single or double tin rollers. In the case of frames with double tin rollers, such as "ring frames, both rollers are driven at a positive speed, which gives a more evenly twisted yarn.

י,

This results in better spinning and a saving in the banding, and, owing to fewer broken enda, means a saving in waste and less work for the operatives.

Mr. Heywood states that his device can Le fitted to existing frames without any alteration to the pattern at a trifling cost.

WORLD-WIDE ORDERS

FOR CREASELESS GOTTON

Messrs. Touta Broadhurst, Lee

& Co., the Manchester manufactur ers of creaseless cotton and rayon fabric, have had such a heavy de- mand for these fabrics that they have had substantially to increase their staff to cope with orders from all parts of the world. The fabrice were hailed on all sides as meeting a long-felt want, and a member of the firm stated that they were mak $25ing many kinds of creaseless gar ments which had met with a' ready sale everywhere.

40 Bonds Asia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. In some respects we think the market looks not exactly toppy but approaching the point where there may be a more active desire to take profits. The reaction ides, if not widespread but we think it is gaining ground. Rails look a bit tired. Wheat: Opened easier on scattered selling but recovered gradually on short covering. Now buying also induced strength in Winnipeg. A lack of rains in the Spring wheat belt advanced prices towards the close. There was a bullish week-end weather forecast. Cotton: The market closed before the official acreage report, showing an 11/16ths per cent. increase, was issued. Expectations were around 9-1/2 per cent. The Administration has not yet determined to take acreage out of cultivar If an acreage reduction is made the amount thereof will be announced later. Silver: There has been good buying on an arbitrage basis on investment accounts and continued selling by commission houses. The market is being guided to some extent by the action of other market.
