LOCAL. AND BEGULAR OUTWARD MAILS,
Estimated exports June 1933 to May 1934. The figure for the period May 1931 to April 1939 was 1,647,133 and for May 1939 to April 1938, 1,299,756. On the same. percentage fall (16 per- cent.) we arrive. at the
figure of............... 1,091,600 Available 1-6-34 excluding
...May. production 1934 ... 2,161,053
Crop the total of which is expect- ed to be round about 500,000 T.
We doubt whether the most pessimistically inclined could com plain at our estimates of local con sumption and exports whilst an antimist would add at least 30,000 T. to the former figure and perhaps even 200 to 300,000 tons to the latter, mainly in anticipation of heavy shipments to West of Suez. He would thus arrive "at"a. reduction in stocks a year, hence of between 400 and 500,000 T.,

Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their Now York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. In some respects we think the market looks not exactly toppy but approaching the point where there may be a more active desire to take profits. The reaction idea if not widespread but we think it is gaining ground. Rails look & bit tired. Whest: Opened easier on scattered selling but recovered gradually on short covering. New buying also induced strength in Winnipeg. A. lack of rains in the Spring wheat belt advanced prices towards the close. There was a bullish week-end weather forecast.. Cotton: The market. closed before the official acreage report, showing an 11/18the per cent increase, was issued. Expectations were around 9-1/2 per cent. The Administration has not yet determined to take screage out of cultiva- tion. If an acreage reduction is made the amount thereof will be announced later. Silver: There has been good buying on an arbitrage basis on investment accounts and continued selling by commission houses. The market is being guided to some extent by the action of other market.
