New York, June 29. Sugar magnates in New York were none too pleased to-day with a Hat announcement from the Ameri- can Chemical Society that sugar can be made from wood and made so cheaply that the discoverer of the process, Professor Erik Haeg glung, of Sweeden, has offered to make a million tons of it annually at a remarkably low price.
According to the Society's an- nouncement, the discoverer offers to produce from 100 kilogrammes of wood, sixty kilogrammes of good sugar and four to six kilogrammes of acetic acid."

Holland and Switzerland, those homes of the gold currency, have both sinned in the above respect by their silver coin from 900 to 720- respectively reducing the fineness in and reducing the size of their silver coins by half. The latter attempt at inflation is more straightforward, it maintains the real silver contents so that everybody knows what has been done.

Hi grandson sent me some months ago a copy of this rare book showing how Sir Robert almost anticipated what would happen now.
The present system will no doubt be changed, because, if not, we shall have a Bolshevism in money the end of which cannot be doubtful, as it is the main cause of the crisis in industry and trade.

Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. According to London dispat- ches the Economic Conference will continue. We do not believe that the Stock Market cares much whether it adjourns or continues. It is not possible at this time to make any reasonable prediction how far or high industrials or rails are going before encountering any real reac tion. Domestic business news continues to be most encouraging. Stories from Washington effect that the next Administration monotaay move may be a cat in the Gold contents of the Dollar naturally stirred speculative imagination and strengthened a desire to buy equities to off-set inflation and the chespining Dollar. Wheat: Trading has been smaller and mostly professional and the outside trade has been good. There are rains in North Dakota but crop news does not improve, the late rally being mainly due to covering operations on a somewhat sold- out market. The weather has been favourable. Silver: Advance in near delivery at the close was largely due to the reported continuance of the London Conference. Generally quiet, Business Done: 6,540,000 shares.
