Such accidents have been not uncommon in the past; at Cal- shot, for instance, scapiznes have sometimes been damaged when the wash from a liner has drafted them

The new buoy has been designed by Messrs. Short Brothers, who build flying-boats and seaplanes, at Rochester, and is manufactured by a Silvertown firm. It is made of a spongy rubber, treated to with stand the action of salt water and tropical heat.
The results of tests already made in home waters are stated to be satisfactory, and the Air Ministry haa ordered a further supply, for trial under tropical conditions in the East. The invention is also being adopted outside the RAF, and the Medway Conservancy has placed a large order for rubber buoys for the mooring of river craft
