CHUKUO'S TRADE FOR 1933

Some Optimistic Figures

The foreign trade of Manchukuo has rapidly been developing since her declaration of independence, snys un article in the Peiping and

a healthier tone all round to-day, especially for invest ment securities, and offerings. of this class of shares are far from being plentiful,

Cements would seem to have im-Tientsin Times, taken from proved their position to a slight Japanese wurce. The aggregate of extent, being bid for at 88.30 cash, Manchukuo's trade for 1932 is not yet this afternoon,

known, but since the total exports and imports of Dairen ordinarily constitute more than half of the entire trade of the country-in 1930 it amounted to 50 per cent, and in 1931, tn 613 per cent of the total value its whole teade: can roughly be inferred from a consideration of the trade situation that prevailed there during the given year.« Dai- ren's export and import figures for 1932 were:-

Judging from the" present trade situation of Manchukuo, it is likely that her export and import returns will show a further increase as the months pass. But even if the summe obtained in January and February remained stationary, the total im port for 1933 would mount to 285,852,000 haikwan taels and stands comparison with the figures reached. in the preceding years. If, on the other hand, the given January and February figures were took place in Dairen's monthly un- followed by a ratio of increase that ports in 1032, the aggregate of such i shipments for Manchukuo during the year 1033 would amount, in- deed, to 606,250,000 haiwan taels. Hence, it can be no exaggeration to Bay that the trade prospect of the new State is a most promising one not only for Japan but also to the countries of Europe and America,

As to the exports of the country, the variation in their monthly amount appears to be not so great as in the case of imports. Since, however, trate returns are usually favourable to Manchukuo, it may not be amiss to sasume that the export figures for 1933 will exceed those for imports given in the fore going table.

Taking up the trade between Dairen and the countries of Europe and America, the amount of its ex- ports increased from T.47,822,000 in.. 1831 to Y,74,812,000 in 1832 or something like 55 per cent., and that of importe, from 1.9,612,000) | to Y,12,097,000-that is to say, the increase here was 25 per cent These returns were obtained a the véar 1932/

*Note. The following table is the basis upon which this calculation has been made.

Azle Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Fidree & Co. Trading opinions are very much mixed, with some trying to tie the Stock Market to the Foreign exchange situation and others, are apprehensive over conditions in the grain market, while still others are not liking the wide fluctuations in specialties, other than for proft-taking Liquidations, at present, are of only negligible quantities. Wheat: The failure to respond to the strength of foreign exchange is indicative of the technical weakness of this market Sentiment became more two sided on reports that damage, in the North-West area is not irreparable Cotton: After a higher opening values dipped sharply, uncovering stop orders. The trend for the balance of the day was irregular influenced by the weakness of other markets. The weather is more favourable. Silver: The Trade absorbed liquidation at the opening and offerings increase later, when weakness developed in other markets. Paris financiers see the abandonment of gold and think that a devaluized Frana is only question of time. Business Done: 5,310,000 shares.
