Bank Of England To

(REUTER'S AMERICAN BÉRVICE]
New York, June
The United States Government is disturĝed “I Buctuations in major currencies. A conferee of ex was held at the Treasury and adjourned without any nouncement being made, but the New York Bed Tribune understands that pressure for stabilisation of the dollar within certain limits, perhaps on a sliding scale, had had strong support from administrative circles.
The Times Washington correspondent says that
experts fear the utmost confusion if nations abandon the gold standard. The relations of the currencies of the world would then be largely influenced by national and internal policies, including inflation, but the situation would accelerate a return to gold stand d Britain.

opinion developing for disarmament in the future was in a great measure dependant on the stability of the German ers Government.
A
President Roosevelt emphasised that the United States promises for consultation were based entirely on a dis- armed Europe and instructed Mr. Davis to return to Europe within a week to renew efforts at peace and dis- armament in conformity with the President's recent appeal.

The Dollar Slides.
London, June 29. Stabilisation interests in the World Conference who have been working for a general stabilisation were aghast at the rapid slide of the dollar.
British delegation on the subject of the stabilisation of the pound sterling.
Swiss Criticism. ->
The threat does not enianate from Swiss quarters but it is un- derstood that the Swiss delegation strongly criticised the calling of a Conference for currency stabi- lisation which hitherto had only the effect of endangering the cur rencies still remaining sound.
Stabilisation nogotiations are continuing to-day and there are hopes in certain quarters that Mr. Ramsay MacDonald will use his influence to persuade the Bank of England to make the desired declaration.
THE TYPHOON
No. 6 Signal Hoisted Yesterday
The typhoon which has beent hovering round the North of Hainan Island for quite a time suddenly moved Northward yester day afternoon and beaded straight for the Colony.
in the morning nothing more than the storm directions signals were hoisted, but at 2.30 in the afternoon, the No. 6 signal was up. All day, junks and other native crafts · scurried away. to their typhoon stations and during the afternoon a number of ships in the Harbour went to Kowloon Bay,
Rain fell intermittently but when it was clear enough to get, & view of thinga, the usual typhoon indi cation were visible, and parti eularly to the Southwards, the weather was dark and forbidding, The hills stood out clearly, and gave
au illusion of closeness.. At times there was hardly any wind but the calm was invariably followed by sharp gusts. At about 5 o'clock the wind was roughly East South East, but by 8.30' it changed 16 points round to West North
