SCARFACE" AT

THE KING'S

OSGOOD PERKINS' FINE ACTING

Osgood Perkins, who distinguish- ed himself as a picturesque gang- leader in Howard Hughes' "Scar- face," began his professional career with the Film Guild in New York City.

He played minor roles with this company until 1924, when he no- cepted a stage offer and appeared with Roland Young in "Beggar on Horseback."

The following year he played three minister roler in as many stage productions. From this type of characterization he went to the other extreme, and played a series of hard-boiled, parte. In the lat ter impersonations he seems have found his forte, and he has Leen playing similar characteriza- tions since, both on stage And

screen.

to

One of the outstanding portrayals of his career was in The Front Page," an Broadway in which he was the original "Walter Burns."

Other stage productions in which he gave outstanding characteriza tions include **Loose Ankles," "Starvation," "Women Go on Forever," "Spread Eagles," "The Wiser They Are" and "To-morrow and To-morrow."

While playing in the latter, he appeared in The Tarnished Lady.." a motion picture, with Tallulah Bankhead. produced by Paramount at their Long Island studios.

Howard Hughes sent him to Hollywood when he completed his engagement in *Tomorrow and Tomorrow," and cast him for the role of "Love" in Scarface," which is now showing at the King's Theatre, which is the outstanding characterization of his career:

This picture has Paul Muni in the leading role with Ann Dvorak, new leading woman, playing on- posite a new type and is said to be sensational.

THE REAL HOLLYWOOD

THEME OF "MAKE ME A STAR"

The real Hollywood, its heart- breaks, its glamour, its wild striving for story-book success, ita tinsel and fanfare, ita comedy-as seen through the eyes to hundreds of our young men and women who have been there to try for fame "and who have failed-or won.

That's the picture which Para mount brings to sereon audiences at the Queen's Theatre with the showing there of "Make Me A Star."

Based on the novel by Harry Leon Wilson, “Make Me A"Star,'

eta to the humanities of America's film capital in a way that no story has ever done before.

*

Like "Touchdown lử whick orobed the heart of American foot- ball-and "Skippy" which glimp sed the fun and pathos of the America Boy, "Make Me A Star" tells its story in a way that trings joy and heart-tugs to all who will behold it.

Joan Blondell and Stuart Erwin head the featured cast with Za Su Pitts and Ben Turpis.

As the clerk in the country store who is mocked. for his high falatia ideas about acting, Erwin is seen in a part that is far the best thing he has done. Audiences are bound to live with him the hard. ships, the disappointments and the final thrills which he experiences when he goes to Hollywood, with his hard-earned savings and makes the grade there in a way that he had never dreamed of in his wildest fights of fancy.
