Fines totalling $10,000 were im- posed by Mr. Wynne-Jones at Cen. tral Mugistracy yesterday on three Chinese who were involved in an opium case. An unusual feature of the case was that alter the sen tences had been passed, the three defendants promptly walked up to the Court cushier's office and paid their fines!

It will be recalled that at the initial proceedings, altogether four people, connected with the 9.8. Kwong Yee, a small river steamer, were charged, but the second ae cased was dismissed as the Magia trate held there was not sufficient evidence against him..
