SALLY EILERS' CONTRACT

RENEWED BY FOX ·

Two weeks before the date duo Fox Film executives, took up the renewal option on Sally Eilers' contract. She was notified of the early action as she started prepar ing for her next role in "Hold Ma Tight," in which she is co-starred with James Dunn. Following this picture, she will be cast opposite Spencer Tracy in "The Lady Cop." She is now playing in State Fair commencing Sunday, the 28th at the King's Theatre.

'CAVALCADE CONTINUES TO CRACK RECORDS IN LONDON

London-"Cavalcade" continues its record smashing career at the Tivoli and plunging into its sixth week shows no sigas in let-up in attendance. Before the third week was completed it had passed the 100,000 mark. This is a remark- able figure when it is considered that there were only three shows a day and two on Sundays.

Members of the Royal family who have seen the picture are the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of York, the Duke of Gloucester, Prince George and Princess Holena Victoria.

COMING TO THE KING'S

LESLIE HOWARD FOR "BERKELEY SQUARE

Abandoning plans for a trip to London, Leslie Howard to day signed a contract to appear in "Berkeley Square," which Jesse L. Lasky will place in production on April 27 for Fox Films.

Negotiations between the actor and producer have been under way for several months with the gen eral understanding that Howard would make the film version of the John Balderston play which first brought him acclaim in New York and London. Various other obliga- tions and the desire to visit Eng- land for previously contracted stage and film engagements halted the negotiations temporarily.

Two others engaged by Mr. Las- ky for important roles in the pro- duction include Ireue Browne, who will play the part of "Mrs. Petti- grow." Miss Browne, an English actress, was brought to Hollywood to do her original role in Fox's "Cavalcade."

Also Valerie Taylor, who appear- ed opposite Mr. Howard in both. the New York and London stage productions, will appear as "Kate Pettigrew." Miss Taylor was test- ed by Frank Lloyd, who will direct the picture, at the same time as eight other aspirants. A slight de- Jay in notification decided Miss Taylor to book passage to Eng- land. Her ship was. passing through the Panama Canal when abs received a radio-gram to re- tbra. She disembarked and took the first steamer back to Holly- wood,

JACK'S THE BOY'

ENGLISH HUMOUR AT ITS BEST

"Jack's the Boy" is English bumour at its best, and Jack. Hul bert of the art of maintaining an audience in a condition of continual merriment. There was a foretasta of this quality in "Sunshine Busie," in which he held the stage for long: periods with grotesque absurdities that were intensely amusing. In "Jack's the Boy" he has even more abundant scope for his delightful fooling,

The character he plays not only its where it touches, he lives the part so thoroughly that all the time he is creating amusa- ment in which he is admirably aa- aisted by Cicely Courtneidge, who runs the Loch Lomond cafe on lines tending to be quite original.
