Glass collars will be amongst the most startling opera and evening, fashions of the season. Exquisite leaves of Lalique glass and dia- monds embroider the collar of a satin' evening coat cut on the new Swagger lines, which hang from the shoulders. The satin is the old-fashioned thick variety, and is so stiffly lined with moire that the coat stands as far out from its dress as the glass collar. Tailored organdi costs of jade green and other effective colours will ascom-¡ pany tailored evening gowns to the opera.

There is no exaggeration an Maggy Rouff's square shoulder line. The shoulders are well out and, the sleeves are set high or are Raglan in cut.

Adress of navy and white paint ed crepe de Chine with short cape sleeves is shown with a plain navy- blue three-quarter length coat. But this is lined with the dress mate rial, so the whole can be changed according as the plain or printed side of the coat is shown.

grow shorter and arms and a peroxide cream can be used. Both are effective.

Bleaching elbows grow in im portance, and if they are to grace charming frocks it is essential that they should be right on top of their form.

از

During the winter they are the victims of neglect. Our attitude to- wards them is something the same as that of the bousemaid towards the top shelf in he spare room cup board. It will not, she thinks, be noticed, so she passes it over.

But elbows are noticed, if not by onrealves by other people, and if, they are at all red or rough they completely spoil the effear of a pretty frock.-

Roughness is due" partly to cold winds and partly to the habit which so many women have of leaning on them. This makes them hard and scaly and coarse-locking.

A good remedy for this is Epsom salts a tablespoonful of which should be put into a basin of hot water. When the salts have dis- solved, the elbows should be soaked until they are soft and pliable, after which a liberal supply of nourishing cream should be mas saged wall into the skin, and, if possible, a little should be left on all night. A lint bandage, or a large pocket handkerchief, can b wrapped round and tied above the

arms.

Elbows that have become dis coloured can be bleached in a varie-

of ways.

Lemon is a simple method, and the best way of using it is to cut one in halves, and rub round and round, squeezing the juice as you do so, so that it gets right into the skin. Dry the elbows gently, and then massage in a little skin food of cold cream,. This will counteract any drying effect which the lemon may have...

finite, stronger measures must be If the discoloration is very de- taken, and either a good bleaching cream or creams are made in vary ing strengths; some are sufficiently mild to be left on all night; others niust be removed, after a stated time. In either; caso, it is wise to follow the treatment with a little nourishing cream.

Another good home bleaching treatment can be carried out quite simply with almond meal, in the following way: First clean the skin with cleansing cream, and wipe off with a pad of cottonwool soaked in cold water and skin tonic, Next také a cupful of almond meal and mix to a thick pants with peroxide of hydrogen. Thin out with a lit tle rosewater until it is nice and crazmy.

Baby's bath must be filled with water of the correct temperature, or the cold water must be put in before the hot. If the bot be put in first, the metal bottom of the bath will bura baby even after the cold water has been added.

Always test the temperature of the water with a thermometer (cor rect temperature 100deg. F.), or with your elbow-not with your hand.

As the child grows older, so his opportunities and abilities for self- injury increase. You cannot fore see all eventualities, but that is no excuse for not taking precautions against the common accidents that have occurred thousands of times.
