Favourites had a lean time at Happy Valley on Saturday and as a result dividends were fairly high. The main race of the day, the Sports Club Cup, found National Day going to the post, A well-backed favourite, but the pony found the distance too much for him and before the straight was reached, he was definitely out of the picture. Gay Butterfly, winner of the Valleys walked off 'with this event,

As predicted the six furlongs sprint for Australians produced "a very fast rate and despite the fact that he was carrying as much as 170 pounds, Portia equalled the course record for the dis- tance, which was set up by Season Ticket last year when carry- ing 188 pounds.

Mr. A. J, P. Heard rode three winners during the day and in four other races, he was second. Mr. Proulx won the first two races and in five other öntings was placed three times. Mr. Frost had two wins and two places and was unplaced four times.
