"Payment Deferred "-the play which was so successfully given by the local A.D.C. sometime ago is now being shown in the Queen's Theatre, in the film version.

Like the play, this is proving to be a tremendous success as evi-

denced by the crowded houses it is drawing to the Queen's.

Charles Laughton who made such success as the bank clerk in the original play both in London and in New York plays that part, and the way he curries out this difficult rôle stamps him as one of the most versatile actors on the screen to day.

The story is too well-known to peed any repetition here but it must be said that it is a thriller of the first ariler and is easily one of the best talkies of its kind shown locally.

Lothar Mendes directed the pic ture with his usual skill and ability and when it is mentioned that the cast includes such players as Mau- reen O'Sullivan, Dorothy Peterson and Ray Milland, one may be as sured of really good entertainment.

Face in the Sky." Spencer Tracy is at his best in this picture. Just cocksure enough to be amusing and not over so; Marion Nixon is charming.

The story is not very new, but it's the old story which goes well of the pretty little girl in the hands of unsympathetic guardians, who is rescued by a hard hitting young man. When the damage had been repaired by a Lward-robe woman, the scene was repeated with a similar result, ex cept that this time a part of Lowe's shirt came off with the buttons.

After this, McLaglen was induced to go easy a bit and Lowe managed to get through the scene with all his buttons in place, though his coat suffered a rip in the back that the camera failed to pick up. Lowe and McLaglen portray the roles of Quirt and Flagg, the ever- ready Marines, in "Hot Pepper," a hilarious comedy depicting their adventuras as rival nightclub owners after they have left the ser- vice.
