dogs are imprisoned. As the name implies, it is a place where those of our dumb friends that are found homeless are kept and given good

treatment. I know of cases when old daga are kept in comfort for the rest of their days, as it were.

But to return to the question of the work done by those running the Homs. Mr. Fowler is, of course, in charge, but he has a Chinese staff who see to the feeding and washing, of the dogs, and also the cleaning out of the kennels and

The dogs are bathed regularly and it is quite amusing to see them on wash day." Little Japanese poodles may be seen basking in the sun next to a full-grown pointer, but perhaps the checkiest members of the Home are the terriers who make more noise than all the others put together.

If one were to pay a visit to the Home any time between 3 o'clock And 4 o'clock any afternoon, he would see our dumb-friends in a great state of excitement. Some of them may even be fighting, but

why all the excitement? The very simple reason is that the dogs are given their meat then but although there is always plenty to go round, dogs, are not unlike little boys in one respect--they are. never satis- fied and are always asking for more!

Rations Plenty of Water.

Only one meal is allowed a day but this is usually a very substantia! one consisting of rice, moat and bones. Of water there is a very liberal allowance, and while on this subject it will not be out of place to remind dog-owners that during the hot weather, it is very necessary to see that friend dog is given a very generous ration of water. To be guilty of not allowing our dumb friends plenty to drink is nothing short of cruelty.

The dogs are kept in kennele which ones out to an area enclosed by wire netting, and except at nights and during rainy weather, the dogs are more often in this open space where the dogs than in the kennels. Only in chači are unusually "fierce" they are chained, and when kept in a kennel, it means, that a one sees a dog being bathed and then home has been found for the par ticular dog and his new roaster will be sending for him soon.

Mr. Fowler pays a visit to the Home every morning but in the afternoons he is always in his office attending to all the matters which though minor in detail, form a very important part of his work.

Have You Got My Dog"" Telephone calls are received practically every day with anxious voices asking if you have got my Sometimes dog in the Home." people call up to ask if there are any dogs för gale or if the authori- ties are looking for a good home for any dog. Just thy dog would do, so long it will behave itself and look after the house!

At present there are about twenty dogs in the home. One particularly nice looking fellow-I think he is across between a setter and a pointer-looked at me with, rather wistful eyes, almost asking if I was looking for a doggie who" enold
