10,000 Tons Removed--- But a Pinnacle Remains

YANGTSZE SHIPPING

DECREASE

(From Our Own Correspondent)

ICHANG, April 9.

The blasting of the Kungling Rocks has not been the perfect saccess it was hoped, for a pinnacle of rock remains which will have one foot of water over it when the river is at zero. The new channel has not yet been declared open, but that is of no consequenco just now as the low water season is over.

Sixteen thousand pounds of gelig nite was used in the blasting and 10,000 tons of rock removed. As an instance of the force of the explo sion, some pieces of rock weighing 2 hundredweight were thrown - distance of 1,200 yards.
