Driver's Story at Inquest
HOW THE FATAL RIDE
-CAME ABOUT.
Kwok Hung Ki, the driver of the motor car in which Yeung Wai Li, a young schoolmistress, met her death when the car toppled prer the Victoria Road hillside on March 11, was in the witness-box at Central Magistracy the whole yesterday afternoon, when the Coroner's enquiry into the death of the girl was resumed. Evidence of his relationship with the deccated and her sister was given.
Mr. W. Schofield sat as Coroner, assisted by a jury comprised of Messrs C. F. Andrews (foreinan), Wong Ping Kwan and Tson, Na Shing.
Mr. Hin Shing. Lo appeared for Kwong Hung Ki, and the owner pe the car was represented by Mr R. A. Wadeson Inspector C. F. Alexander watched the case on bo half of the Police.
The deceased was travelling with her younger sister and Kwok at the time when she met her death, and serious allegations were made. against Kwok by several witnessca and by the deceased herself just before her death, to the effect that Kwok had deliberately tried to kill the deceased and her sister." It was indicated at the first hear ing that probably a grave charge arising out of this enquiry would be preferred him.
After evidence had been given by Li Yee, the owner of the car to the offect that the brakes were in per- fect order when he loaned it to Kwok, the latter took the witness
stand and said that he was Icensed motor driver and was em played by Messrs. Goeke and Com pany as a salesman." -
In reply to the Coroder, Kwok said that he first came to know the decensed and her sister about four months ago when he was introduced to them by a man named Mok Chi Sut. Since the introduction he had seen tho

WHAT THE NATIVE FACTORIES ARE PRODUCING
PLENTY OF ROOM FOR-FOREIGN ENTERPRISE
(From Our Own Correspondent)
A vilt to the shops of inland cities of Central China in the provinces of Ashwel and Klangsi reveals wonie interesting facts that should be worthy of serious thought by importers of foreign goods. On the one hand, the shops are destitute of foreign goods, and on the other hand people are demanding more and more of the com- forts and conveniences which foreign goods supply.
THE BOYCOTT HERE TO STAY
The boycott of Japanese goods is most obviously here to stay. It is useless for the merchants of other nations to stay out of the market-anticipating that-Japan-will-get-back-into-it, The boycott is one hundred per cent effective. The writer inter- viewed an inspector of one of the volunteer boycott organizations. of an interior city, The inspector declared that he had not seen a box or bals of Japanese goods for months, in spite of the fact that he examines all goods coming into the city by the re- gular freight routes. A glance at the shops indicate that he a correct. There is not a single article of Japanese manufacture to be found in the city.

The prices were compared at the present high rate of the exchange of the American dollar; other countries would have a decided advantage over that at the present time.
A Promising Market,
The Masses Have Money.
Some people say the masses of
China have not enough money to buy, foreign goods. This is mani- fostly absurd, for they have tens of millions per annum to spend on the destructive opium and on ai- most equally useless cheap cigaret tes. The only reason they spend the money on opium, is that no- thing is presented to them that at tracts them more than the opium doas.
