The above sharp "fall in the ex- port trade is not unexpected. The volume exported during the last eleven days of March was much larger than usual, in as much as it included goods held up by the banking crisis in the United States. The present figure of Y40,989,000 is more normal. It is significant, how- ever, that raw silk has fallen Y1,500,000, cotton tissues T4,995,000 and. silk tissues P710,000. As re- gards the import trade, the drop is natural, as the business season is Raw cotton, imports Bow ended. increased by Y8,654,000 Y20,411,000. The quantity of 471,420 piculs, however, is what was gen erally anticipated.

regards Overseas factors affecting Japan's foreign trade, much hope is pinned to the amer gency schemes in the United States. The Indian Anti-Exchange Dump- ing Law, if applied to Japanese cotton goods, will be a serious blow, but reports so far received state that there will be a delay of about two months in the actual working of the law. The Sino-Japanese tariff agreement is soon to be abor- gated, but it is hoped that the Chinese Government will not effect any marked change in tariff rates.
