A. S. C. CADRE'S SECOND ANNUAL

DINNER

WARM WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS: MAJOR MANNERS" PRESIDES OVER LARGE GATHERING

SPIRIT OF GOOD FELLOWSHIP VERY

EVIDENT

The spirit of good comradeship and conviviality was very much in evidence last night at the Sports Club with the officers, N.O.O.'s and men of the A.S.C. Cadre, when the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, held their second, sinal dinner.

Happy speeches, songs and music all added to the success of the occasion. The opportunity was taken to extend a warm wel- come to the large number of non-British res'dents in the clony who have recently ained the adre.

Mr. Dick Barty, who recently returned to the Colony proved to be a very capable entertainer and the proceedings were carried on until almost midnight. Major C. M. Manners presided over the proceedings.

Since the Japanese invasion of Manchuria Marshal Chang's posi

tion has been very difficult. He has had to contend with three fores, the ciders of the provinces, the National Government and the Japanese. The Japanese tried bri- bery and then threats. The former had no effect, but the threats of what would be done if he joined the National Government drove him to fly the National flag He

as being the only way in which he could get the support of the League of Nations.

Mr. Donald also told our repre- sentative that it was expected that Sig. Mussolini would meet Conte Rosso at Brindisi and that the marshal and his fandly would
