Racing

HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 1933

Local Sport Reviewed

BY ** NOMAD”.

The racing at Happy Valley Jast Saturday was full of interest for the student of form. One thing that emerges from the day's sport was the fact that King Salmon is a much better pony to-day than he was at the Annual Race Meeting. The pony lost by a short head to Royal Flush at the second "Extra" and has now como away with a win and on his present form it looks sa though he has many more victories to coine this year and, possibly though this is too early a moment to prophesy he will emerge the win- aer of either the St. Leger or the Champions in the Autumn. Amoy who dead-heated with him in the Just racs might have won had his jockey been able to bring the pony a little closer to the leaders in the earlier part of the race, but the pace set by Orlando was too hot for

Amoy.

[playing for Hong Kong, the local side can depend upon it that the Colony will be well represented and it is sincerely hoped that the pro- jected arrangement will come off.

Interest in football seemed to be on the wame as the Championships of all the three divisions have more or less been decided. The Artillery, at one time strong also suffered defeat in the hands of a comparatively weak team, the Police. The Gunners were without the services of two of their regular forwards, Moore and Woods, and their absence was probably respon- sible for the defeat. He read the weekly subscri bed to it and he confessed he derived a good deal of banent out of it. It was not a book, however, but a man on which he had tried to model himself, and the man was no other than a former Governor, Sir Henry May.

Professor Simpson said that as a teacher of English literature, he had listened with great attention to this journey through English literature without the help of a teacher. Had the jony won it would not have paid more than 4-1. Where was the justification for it! Another pony that was welk backed (though by no means as heavily as Battling Horse) was Auction Bridge. The pony has haver done anything to merit such support. A study of the betting figures also reveals another interest ing thing, that in most cases the public pounce on ong candidate and make him the favourite, so that if any other pony comes in it pays well.
