LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION-

INTERESTING BUSINESS AT THE

ANNUAL MEETING '

CHANGES IN PLAYING OF LEAGUE MATCHES

The annual general meeting of the Hong Kong Lawn Tennis Association was held yesterday in Sanitary Board Room, Mr. B, E. Lindseli, as president of the Association, was in the chair.

After the adoption of the report and accounts for the previous year, and the election of officers for 1933, an interesting discussion on certain proposed modifications in the conduct of the League matches arose out of a proposal put forward by Mr. S. A. Gray (Hon. Seecretary).

The propoaod changes were dealt with point by point and men- bera spoko for and against. The final decision was that a system of block fixtures should be adopted, and that the league grouping; under divisions, should be regulated for this season by the excen tive committee on a basis of the performance of each team last year, and in the future by a system of promotion or relegation to a lower section based on the points scored during this season's longus matches. Proposals to alter the present system of scoring and that the 1st pair should play only the 1st pair in the opposing train, in- stead of all three pairs as at prosent, were not adopted by the meeting.

Ground,

Despite the efforts of your com mittee in securing a site for the proposed 1.T.A: Home" and the approval given to this by an extra ordinary general meeting of the As sociation, this scheme has had; for the present, to be abandoned. No support was forthcoming from the clubs for the approval scheme to issue Bearer Debenture Certifientes to raise the money necessary to carry out the project, and, in view of this, the permit to occupy the ground was withdrawn.

Your committee, although regret- ting the enforced abandonment of this scheme, has not lost sight of the necessity for the Association to acquire its own ground for the con- ducting of Championship, Interport and Exhibition tennis in Hong Kong.

Taterport Matches,

Shanghai sent down a men's teain to take part in an Interport match in October, when they were success-. ful in taking away the Taggart Cup after a very fine aeries of matches. Shanghai won the tournament by three matches to two, Hong Kong winning

doubles and. singles. We are indebted to the Kowloon Cricket Club for the assist- ance they gave in providing an ex- cellent court and for other facilities which enabled the Interport to be successfully staged. Unfortunately, Shanghai were unable to sent down a ladies' team, and Hong Kong re tained the trophy unchallenged.

Various other leading Japanese players passed through the Colony and were afforded facilities for prae- tice at the Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Kowloon Cricket Club.
