Breach Of Promise

THE DECISION OF JUDGE W. W.

ROGERS

I find in favour of the Plaintiff, to whom damage to the value of one cash will be awarded, without costs," declared Judge W. W. Walton Rogers, thus ending ons of the most sensational and historia breach of promise cases which has ever stirred the Colony. This verdict was followed by an unseemly outburst of mirthand cheers, unprecedented in the annals of the local Courts, and re- sulted from the Jury fading in favour of the Plaintiff by twenty- six votes to twenty-three.

The principal actors in this thril ling domestic drama were "Gertie" R. Selk (who nobly sacrificed his noustache for the occasion) and Mr. F. W. C. Dann, the dejected De fendant. The case was heard in St. Andrew's Church Hall, Kowloon, on Monday evening, and the facts were as follows:

Plaintiff's Case. ན་ That Gertie Selk did act up to the letter of the Engagement, act ed honourably at all times towards the said Mr. Dann and was at all times the soul of honour etc. and now sues for damages by the break- ing of the Engagement, soiling of her fair name, expenses for trous seau etc.

Defendant's Case,

That the Engagement was broken by Dann because of the said Gertie's † continued ill-temper, association with men other than the Defendant etc. Facts.
