LOSS OF $900 ON A CANCELLED BALL
MR. C. BULMER JOHNSON TO BE PRÉSIDENT FOR 1933
The annual general meeting of the Baciety of St. George, Hong Kong, was held yesterday in the board room of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Gloucester Building.
Major H. B. L. Dowbiggin, Pre sident of the Society for the year 1932, addressed the meeting us fol- lows:
The general funds show a balance of $4,054.42. which is slightly less than the opening balance on this account, Grants and donations amounting to 81,853.88 have again increased compared with a figure last year of 81,649.41. To meet ex- penditure on this account it was found necessary to transfer 8715.99 from the entertainment fund.
It will be seen that this fand is now exhausted by reason of the fact that in addition to the above it had to bear expenditure of 8904.84 in respect of the 1932 Ball, which was cancelled, and also a loss of B543.09 incurred in connection with the dance held on St. George's Day.
I am pleased to state, however that about one-third of the expes diture for the 1932 ball was for PATRIOTIC ACTION OF

St. George's Day.'
Mr. Balmer Johnson said that the only other business was to decide how to celebrate St. George's Day. As to St. George's Ball he per- sonally would like to have a similar buffet ball on Twelfth Night. There were people who felt that in theso times of depression the ball should not be held, but he did not agree. He proposed that a similiar fune- tion to that held this year should take place.
