The Report.

The Headmistress speech which was read by Fr. Byrne, S. J. was as follows:-

Enrollment.

The average enrollment for the year was 144. This was an increase of twenty over the previous year spent at 140 Caine Road, and the result of a steady increase since the first 90 enrolled on the opening of our school at 7 Robinson Hond.

Attendance.

Class 3 had a record of perfect attendance for seven months, and only 4 little short of perfect for the remaining months The other classes, notably the Special Class and the infant classes, left much to be desired in the matter of attend ance. We earnestly ask the parents to cooperate, with as by registering new children promptly at the be ginning of the year, and by plan-

ning their trips to the country to coincide with the school holidays.

Health.

Some of the absences were caused by illness, but we are glad to re- cord no cases of serious ill health.

It is hard to make the children realize the importance of caring for their eyes. Many more than are, should be wearing glasses.

The Staff and Class Work. We appreciate the thorough work done by our Chinese Masters in the upper and middle school. Mr. Yue, inspector of vernacular schools, commenting on the com- positions of the children, said that they were a credit to both pupils and teachers.

In the English Department, we might wingle out the work in phone- tics for special mention, Drawing also is a favourite subject with the girls as the amount of care they put on home-work shows. We do not believe that girls are poor in mathematics. Many of our girla show a liking for this subject and a corresponding ablity in it. The girls who took the Junior examina- tion secured especially high marks in geometry,

Mr. Evana Have you been in the Army 1-Yes,

What is your objection to Service men I have none whatsoever.

Am I right in saying that you your wife going to objected to dances with Service men at all- Yes, a few but not the whole lot.

Referring to the whist drives at Stonecutter's in which Mrs. Spary was alleged to have often gone, Mr. Evans asked: The invitations to your wife always included your self-es.

Did you permit your wife to go to these drives provided she went with a indy. Yea. Provided she went with a married couple.

Begarding Mr. Spary's alleged drunkeness, Mr. Evans, asked :-- Your usual drink was whisky

Yes.

Would you tell me roughly what your drink chils are for a month? They vary according to the aca- son of the year. I can tell you that the clite for the whole of last month (February) in all chuba

was $21.

Going back a bit further, in October, November or December, am I right in saying that your bill at the Kowloon Chicket Club was 800 a month?—I only joined the Kowloon Cricket Club in July. The average is about $30 but that also included Club's hilliards, tournaments, tiffin, dance, etc.

When questioned about the in- cident after the Chinese dinner at Yaunati in which Mr. Spary was alleged to have attempted to strangle his wife, witness denied strongly that he had ever done such a thing. The Christmas party is planned to be our biggest event of the year. This year it was a very happy af- fair. It is a private party for the school children, but guests of hon. our this year were: Fathers Dono- van and de Angelis.

The children looked forward to his weekly visit, and during his classen were very alert and brimming over with enthusiasm. It was with re- gret that we learned that he will not be our weekly visitor this year, but we have every proof of his con tinued and deep interest in the students who took to him as more than teacher
