Asin Lands, Limited, have received the following report from their New York correspondent, Messrs. E. A. Pierce & Co. There is no precedent for measuring the market as the situation is absolutely unique. In addition to short covering thero has been a substantial amount of public buying to-day. While we cannot ex- peet the list to-morrow to duplicate today's advance, we expect strong support but small recessions, with a possibility of substan tially higher prices within a week, particularly pending the Wasite ington Legislative measure, if they do not strike unexpected snags.

Lower Figure For Last Year
DROP IN INVESTMENT INCOME
(Special Air-Mail Service) Loudou, February 28.-The usun! analysis of the country's balance of payments is contained in the cur rent issue of the Bourd of Trade Journal. From this it is estimated that Great Britain, which had a credit balance of £28,000,000 for 1920 nad a debit balance of £104,000,000 for 1931, had a debit balance for the past year of £50,000,000. It is ex- plained that the calculations at the beginning of last year showed a debit, balance for 1831 of £130,000,- 000 but this figure is now reduced to £104,000,000 owing to fuller infor mation available regarding Govern ment receipts and payments, to slight revisions of the preliminary figures of imports and exports in that year, and to an increase of £3,000,000 in the earlier estimate of income ΕΤΟΣ investments. The hostilities on the Jehol front have not had the adverse effect on) Shanghai that might have been ex- pected and wome sales have been offected for both nearby shipment as well as for April/May shipment. In general the Hong Kong market is dull and only a few isolated sales for shipment by nearby steamers have been possible.
West of Suex, Business with these destinations is extremely difficult but it is possible that these markets will absorb more Java Whites in the near future.

The Journal says:-" The record. ed excess of imports of gold bullion and specie in 1932 was £18,000,000; in 1930 the excess of imports was £5,000,000, while in 1931 there was an excess of exports amounting to £35,000,000. The figure for the net imports of gold in 1932 is, however, neither a gold nor a sterling figure, since, while buition is valued at the "price of the day, sovereigns uro taken at the face or currency value. Net imports of gold come to about £12,500,000 if taken at parity, and
