First reports of the mishap were received here by the Naval Au thorities in a wireless message which stated that the farepank of the vessel was making water. The message which was sent by Cap tain Ashby added the encouraging news that the No. 1 hold was still

A tug was accordingly sent from Hong Kong during the day to the aid of the distressed steamor, and, later the H.M.S. Folkestone was ordered to go to the seene to stand by.
