Refineries.
Have shewn renewed intereat and business in Browns up to May shipment has been recorded with Auckland, Hong Kong and Japan.
India,
The latest quotation for British Refined is 7/81d. a and f. which puts this quality right out of com- petition with Javas and the West Coast, in particular Bombay, has been a strong buyer for all posi- tions up to May shipment at ad- yancing rates. A limited business is also reported to have been done for
shipment. June/September There are signs of a renewed in- terest from the East Coast but this side of India still appears reluctant to relinquish their hand to mouth policy though with the revival at present, being experienced, dealers would appear well advised to do

Shanghai has not yet fully re- gained confidence in the article though the first sales of New Crop Molasses sugar hare boen effected for May shipment. Hong Kong has, during the last two days, come up to. Java parity for nearby ship- ment and a fair business should eventuate for March shipment,

Business in 100% Crop Whites for small lots up to May shipment has been effected. to Port Said and ports West thereof.
The N.I.V.A.S.. Total sales now amount to:-
Superior 296,335 tons, Superior seconds 9,628 tons, Browns 80,490 tens, Molasses 4,000 tons.
Which shows an increase of Superior 121,160 tocs, Browns 31,815 tons, Molasses 4,000 tons since our last report
The limit for Whites for Chipa and local consumption has remain- ed unchanged at f. 57 but prices for India have been advanced 25 cents. and now stand at-East Cerist West Coast f.5, at which enhanced rates a fair business has been done, It is believed that the N.IV.A.S. would like to abandon conceding a special price for India and that they will lose no time in acting acordingly whenever market.con- ditions permit, and the general Itendency at present is for this to eventuale or at any rate for a fint rate to the East and West Consts to be instituted. Business in Browns for refineries has been 'done at up to 42, whilst prices for export of small lots of Browns 20/H have been advanced by 10 centa, the basis price for the latter still being dependent upon the port at which the sugar is lying.
It will be seen from the above and our last report that a revival of business with all Java's most im- portant consuming markets has

The Couran Bill given the Comptroller of Currency power over National Banks equivalent to a dictatorship, meaning the segregation of bank assets between the slow and known liquid assets and the limiting of withdrawals to a percentage basis as applied to the known liquid assets. This should go a long way towards preventing a state of bank holiday such as prevailed in Michigan recently.
