KOWLOON-THE PEAK-THE VALLEY

Whore shall we live? It is often difficult problem for those who inteni! to make their homes here for For the a term of five years or so. unmarried or the childless it is I comparatively simple; one of the big hotels if you can afford it, if A boarding not a small hotel or hotte. For men the Club, the Y.M.C.A. or a mess, for women the Helena May.

But if you have a family then you have to weigh, within the limit of your purse, the respective merits of Kowloon, the Peak, or Happy Valicy. Children are generally not a sucOGIS in a hotel or boarding house, although the Penk Hotel has its babies' allay" and we believe that much goodwill is to he found among locul boarding house keepers on the score of junior guests

First the Peak. That meant fairly good income as a beginning. The air is good, and naturally it is. a great deal cooler in the sum mer and Peak children often have real homeside rosy, cheeks in will ter. But on the other side. is the fact that Peak children can have very little free exercise unless your house has a big garden. Most of the European flats in Kowloon have been built within the last decade, and while they are by no means all well-constructed they are at least modern in design and

The school nooommodation limited, especially the kindergarten, but plans are afoot to rebuild- both junior and senior schools. Several good convent schools are to be found in Kowloon, and one in particular, St. Mary's, has admirable modern buildings.

In the Garden City of Kowloon Tong emal houses with gardens can be either bought or rented very reasonably. Kowloon Tong is only in ita infancy and has certain dis advantages, ad distance" from the schools and the forry but time will almost certainly remedy the former and an accelerated 'bus ser vice the latter.
