A very large gathering of old boys of the Diocesàn Boys' School Was present at Lane, Orawford's Restaurant last night when a diaper was held at which the joint hosts were His Lordship the Bishop of Victoria, Rt. Rev. Ronald Hall, and Hon, Dr. À. H. Kotewall, C.M.G.

Among those present were the Headmaster of the School, Mr. C. B. B. Bargent, Mr. Chau Yue Teng, Mr. J. M. Wong, Dr. Arthur Woo, Mr. Thomas Tam and many other prominent local residents. After Dr. Kotowall, who took the Chair, had welcomed Mr. Sargent, the latter addressing the gathering sald:-

I have been continually meeting, old boys, and always I have had a Bense of welcome and loyal support which has meant far more to me than those who gave it probably realised, and has added enormously to, the pride I have folt in being nssociated with the school.

I also want to thank all these tained by the growth; of this family old boys who have been so friendly spirit in the school. And the old boys are members of the family, and their loyalty and continued in- terest, is to a great extent a mou sure of the success of the school's work. That is why I so greatly valne both meeting like this and in- dividual contacts with old boys. It 8 up to us to prove the value of these intangible things as the best basis for a worth-while education, by the outward and invisible signs in the shape of examination results and the prominence and influenco of old boys in their many and varied activities.

Your presence here to-night is another sign of your interest, and I can assure you that we too follow with interest the doings of old boys in the Colony and elsewhere.

Worthy Old Boys.

We are particularly proud that the old boys are so worthily repre- sented on the School Committee by Mr. Châu. Yue Teng, Mr. J. M. Wong, and Dr. Kotowall, who, in apite of a very busy life always finds time to give wise counsel and active jassistance. Even tonight he is here on the eve of departure for Singapore, and against his doctor's orders. We owe a great debt to him for his devotion.

At the Diocesan Boys' School we that things matter in aults, and we attach great import anee to what one may call the in-t ponderable things in school life- mean the general atmosphere, the spirit of loyalty and pride, the con- tinual personal contact, friendship and unselfish co-operation between teachers and students, both in and out of school which distinguish schools run

The Good Old Days. Nobody questions the good work done by the School in the old days under Mr. Peircey, but you all know that it has in some ways been under a cloud since the move to the present site,

Tito death occurred' at the Kow. loon Hospital on Thursday after- noon of Mr. J. T. Souza, a well- known member of the Portugueso community. Mr. Souza who was 60 years of age, had been in failing health for a considerable time.

Mr. Souza was formerly in the employ of the Canadian Pacifio Railway but later he, was associat- ed with the Holland-China Trad

J. 1 ing Company and Messrs. S. David and Company. His death will no doubt be widely mourned as he enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends.

The funeral took place yesterday, the remains being interred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery. A large number of friends and relatives attended and there was profusion of wreaths.
