Residents of Malibu Beach, near Santa Monica, Calif., were racont ly startled from their sleep, it seems, by the thud of horses' hoofs on hard-packed sand. At three o'clock in the morning, too! They're used to hoaring John Gilbert racing his car at a like hour, cutout wide
open, and Ben Lyon swooping just above their heads in his nowest plane. But the horses' hoofbeats are a novelty, even to the movie colony.

Investigation established the cause of all the clatter. The lady responsible for it was Lil Dagover, the lately imported German screen sensation, who makes a tabit of this nightly ride.
