LUBITSCH FILM 'BOOKED FOR KING'S THEATRE

More than twice as much time“ is spent in the preparation of an Ernst Lubitsch picture than in actually filming it.

Lubitsch, whose latest produc- tion, * Trouble ink Paradise," comes to the King's "Theatre on Wednesday, with a cast headed by Miriam Hopkins, Kay Francis, Herbert Marshall, Charlie Ruggles and Edward Everett Horton, is one of the most painstaking of Hollywood directors. Though the principal charm of his pictures lies in their apparent' spontaneity, they're worked out far in advance, and all that appears spontaneous has been mulled aver time and again until Lubitsch is sure it'a absolutely perfect, according to his way of thinking.

In preparation for Trouble in Paradise," for example, he worked daily for three months with Sam.. so Raphaelson and Grover Jones, who wrote the scenario from a play by Laszlo Aludar, Viennese play. wright. -Not only plot, but dialogue and the deft, whimsical touches that trade mark a picture is Lubitsch-made, were worked out at this time.

By the time he starts drilling his players in their roles, Lubitsch knows the script from beginning to end. He's as well acquainted with the mood of each sequence as with its fines of bits of action.

"Trouble in Paradise," in which he is said to have employed a new technique for films, is the story of a pair of sitave super-crooks who prey upon European society.
