WYATT OUT FOR FORTY-NINE

ADELAIDE, Jan. 17. There was a crowd of only 12,000 present when Jardine (24) and Wyatt (47) resumed the English in nings at: 85 for 1 this morning to good length bowling of Wall and O'Reilly.

The English pair added only six runs before Wyatt cocked up a ball from O'Reilly, and was smartly taken by Wall at short leg. It was a doubtful-looking catch, but the umpires were agreed that it wa not a bump bali, -91-2-49.

In compiling 49 Wyatt was at the crease for 133 minutes, during which time he hit four boundaries, He aided Jardine to add 84 rani for the second wicket.

With Jardine and Allen together the 100 went up after 169 minutes" play. The England Captain was seen in his most dour mood, scor- ing only 3 runs in 45 minutes.

Allen Out,

Allen stopped in front of a straight one from Grimmett, 123-3-| 15. He batted for 52 minutes and hit two boundaries in a restrained inninga.

Hammond then joined Jardine and the pair remained together un til lunch, which was taken with the score at 130 for 3, Jardine be ing 46 and Enmond 1.

Oldfield, who was struck on the head by Larwood and forced to rotire hurt, in the Australian first innings, has greatly improved, and there is every possibility that "he will be able to bat in Australia's' second innings.

Jardine Hits a Boundary! Jardine reached his 50 after lunch with a straight drive, to the rails off Wall. He had batted for 249 minutes, and had hit one bound- ary. In the next over, however, he artistically straight drove O'Reil ly to send up 153 after 250 minutes' batting.

Jardine was out two balls later when he received a ball from Iron monger that came straight through to hit him on the pads. 154-4-88, He batted with monumental pati- ence for 254 minutes and hit only two boundaries in 56.

Leyland's Plays Bright Cricket, Leyland's arrival infused the Arst spark of life in the English bat:
