RACE MEETING IN BITING COLD WEATHER AT 'MACAO

SMALL CROWD ATTEND; FAVOURITES HAVE A GOOD DAY

MISS FEARON WINS LADIES RACE

ON PRIDE OF. TSINGTAQ

[BY MORNING DEW."}

The race meeting at Macao yesterday attracted a very smail crowd although the attendance made no difference to the” racing which was keen throughout,

The open air temperature at the course was about 1 deg. and there was a strong Worth-Easterly wind blowing throughout the afternoon. This no doubt kept away many people who might other wise have attended,

Miss Fearon added one more win to her many victories when she won the Ladies' Race with Pride of Tsingtao by many lengths. The pony was, of course, the best on the field, and Miss Fearon made no mistake with her mount.

The new Subscription Griffins of the Macao Jockey Club figured in two sprint races over five furlongs and appeared to be quite good on the whole. One of the new subs, Bold Lad started in the first race, and won. He was made a favourite hy the public who apparently know much about the pony's form and phat record.

Valley Hall won with Mr. Black on the saddle to pay fairly good dividend. The pony ccounted for Gold Mine and Powerful King, two well fancied candidates.

The cash sweeps were on the small side. The ticket for the first prize in the big swoop was sold over the counter in Macao.

Mr. Caplan was the most success- ful jockey, riding three winners dur ing the femoon and getting a third place.

KOWLOON BEAT POLICE AND CLUB-VARSITY

***** DRAWN IN 2ND LEAGUE

COMMANDER SHAW AND D. J. N. ANDERSON IN FORM

Saturday's cricket was played under wintery conditions, sweat ers being much in evidence. On the whole batsmen seemed to ruffer more than bowlers. Commander Shaw with 66 (out of 78 Fans scored for the Navy against I.E‚0;" while, No: vär" at the -- wickels), played the highest innings of the day, Anderson coming next with 67, not out, against the Club.

Only two League matches were played, both being Beaand Divi- sion games. On their own ground K.0.0, best. Police 2.0, by 97 runa to 72. Walker took als' Police wickets for 30, and only a plucky last wicket knock by O. Carruthers saved his side from collapse. For the Police Thomson took 5 for 40. The Olub just managed to draw their game at Pokfulam with the Varsity, but when stumps were drawn the latter, with dye wickets in Hand only raquired 5 runs to win. Gan played havoc with the visiting bats- men, taking wickets for 18 runs in 3,4 overs.

In friendly games Olub 1st XI drew with the Varsity, but might will have won bul for Anderson's steadiness. At Bookarpoo Kowloon 0.0, made short work of the Army, who were all out for 88, while in the adjoining ground the Senior Service went down to L.E.O. The match would have been a route for the sailors, but for Shaw and Fuller, Fereira. and Minu; doing the damage, IE.C. batted consistently, and put on 158 for 3 wickets. 0.8.0.0, beat, Craigengower, their batsmen putting on a creditable 185 for 6 wickets to which Oralgengower rapiled with 107.

CIVILIANS BEAT ARMY IN LAI WAH CUP

FEW SURPRISES IN JUNIOR LEAGUE MATCHES

ATHLETIC BEAT LINCOLNS; CLUB HOLD BORDERERS

Owing to the fact that many players of First Division teams were appearing either for the Civilians or the Army in the fat Wah Cup, no Tirst Division matches took

took place on Saturday.

In this match, which was played at Sookumpoo, the Olvillans were rather lucky to beat the Army by three goals to one, as two of the goals were scored through misunderstandings by the Army's defence.

Very low surprises were provided by the Second and Third Division matches. The Borderers wore held to a draw by the Club in the Second Division, while Eastém, at present at the bottom of the League, drew with South China, a comparatively strong Team,

In the Third Division, the results ended as expected with the exception of South China who were forced to share the points with the University after leading by four goals in the first half.
